Good news for dedicated bookworms today – especially those who’ve been holding out on making the digital transition to electronic reading devices until prices bend alongside an increasingly competitive market.
Moreover, American bookseller Barnes & Noble has this week announced a new WiFi-only version of its popular dual-screen Nook eReader, which will retail for a decidedly pocket-tempting $149 USD due to its lack of cellular-network connectivity.
Further to that announcement, Barnes & Noble has also reduced the $238 USD price ( available here ) of its original Nook reader, bringing the 3G and WiFi-enabled device down to just $199 USD.
According to Barnes & Noble, the revamped Nook will be available online from Monday, June 21, and will be available through walk-in Barnes & Noble and Best Buy stores before the close of the month.
It remains to be seen if and how online retailer Amazon – Barnes & Noble’s closest eReader rival – will react to the Nook product shuffle and price drop, not least because the 3G/WiFi Nook is now some $60 USD cheaper than its Kindle reader.
